Fahrenheit 451 Essay

In my eyes, Fahrenheit 451 has a lot to offer to readers in 2018. At first, I didn't think to much of the book. It would be a book where the title Fahrenheit 451 wouldn't grab my attetion, but then again don't judge a book by its cover. It's pretty crazy that this book was written in the 50's because it has situations that are now an every day life in 2018.

The role of technology in society now is huge just as it is in the book. Everywhere you go you see it. People basically carry all the information in the world in their pocket. For example, in the book people are addicted to their t.v. shows such as Mildred. It became a part of Mildred to be attached to the parlor walls. Technology nowadays is basically a part of one's daily routine. Schools are transforming from using textbooks to using tablets that carry all the information you need. Now you can turn in assignments online instead of paper just as this essay is getting turned in online.

Montag, a fireman, is the main character in the book. He's a dynamic character that changed drastically. When you hear the word firemen you think of people who put out fires as their job. In the book it's the complete opposite. Firemen start the fires. In the beginning of the book, Montag followed the rules of a firemen and burned any house down that had books. Montag didn't know why books were illegal and had to be destroyed he just did his job. It wasn't until he met this young girl named Clarisse that gave him a different perspective of the world and of life. She opened his mind to new things. Montag goes from burning books to keeping them and reading them know the consequences he could face if he gets caught. Books gave Montag knowledge and saw how his society was brainwashed by technology.

Ray Bradbury made crazy technological predictions that didn't exist in the 50's but exist now as a part of one's life. Bradbury made a prediction of earbuds referring them to seashells in his book. Nowadays everyone has a pair of earbuds and use them daily. I have my earbuds in right now listening to music while typing this. You can see the prediction that Bradbury made with technology.
